Field Turf for Soccer Arenas
Posted by Matt Garrabrants on
Soccer arenas are usually one of the first establishments in the sporting world to introduce newer trends. It was the soccer arenas that first installed astro turf and soon the trend expanded to other sporting bodies. Soccer stadiums were also the first one to use large TV screens to enable spectators to watch the game. Floodlights were also extensively used for the first time in soccer arenas. It is thus no wonder that soccer fields love to experiment with fake turf.
What Footballers Like
Soccer stars are increasingly turning to artificial turf and this trend is not limited to a particular geographic region. There is a tangible preference for fake grass among soccer stars as they like the playing surface. The explanation given for better playing surface is rooted in the soft texture and flexibility of artificial grass. Unlike natural grass, which tends to develop depressions, fake turf keeps a uniform texture and composition. A soccer field with fake turf installed on it will bear a uniform look whereas you can see bald spots in an arena with natural grass.
Soccer stars do not like playing on bald spots as it impedes their natural sport. Chances of injuries also increase if the game is played on natural grass. There may not be enough support bases available in some fields that players could fracture bones or develop other complications. This is not the case with standard artificial turf that comes with a thick base that can sustain the major impact of a fall thus sparing the player of getting severely injured.
Installation
Field turf for soccer arenas can be installed in a few simple steps. The first step involves the measurement of the area where you need to install fake turf. Measurements need to be taken accurately as this could impact the final look of the stadium. Actual installation will only take a few hours as long as you have hired professionals for the job. Putting green turf on the arena without seeking professional help can be counter-productive. Support staff of an average American soccer field is not well-versed to undertake the installation of hundreds of square feet of artificial turf. It requires expertise and patience that is only offered by professionals.
Maintenance
Maintenance of field turf is a simple job. You only need to follow certain basic rules and regulations. Artificial turf needs significant watering in the start where you may have to hose down the grass every day. You will also need to remove debris from the fake turf using industrial blowers. Watering requirement will gradually ease where you may not need to water the fake turf for a week or two. This is not the case in natural grass where you have to water it every day, sometimes two to three times a day.
Unlike natural grass, artificial turf does not wilt and there is no pest infestation. Artificial field turf stays green and healthy for many seasons thus eliminating the need to replace the turf every few months.
