Indoor Fake Lawns – A Sign of Luxury
Posted by Matt Garrabrants on
Fake lawns are the new chic thing in the home decor industry. These comprise of fake grass in lieu of natural varieties and can be installed outdoors and indoors. There are two types of synthetic turf available with the first one requiring a bed of gravel and provision of drainage passages. The second type of artificial grass is one that is spread like a carpet and does not need any gravel bed for installation.
Changing Trends
Home decor trends have seen a revolution of sorts in recent years. Gone are the days when conventional items such as sofas and carpets ruled the roost. You can now find an eclectic mix of decoration items that have found their way into homes and offices. Fake lawns are another novelty that is making its presence felt in thousands of American homes and now it is also possible to have these indoors. It is all about planting grass in an area that is fully covered and shaded that could be your bedroom, lounge or kids room.
You may get confused on how one can plant grass indoors when there is no sunlight. It also looks illogical to plant fake turf when it still requires infrequent watering. The entire area will become a mess, one would ask.
The real situation is quite different from the common misconceptions. Artificial grass also comes in carpet-like rolls that do not need any watering or gravel base. This specific variety is ideal for indoor installation as it does not require sunlight and has little, if any, maintenance regimen.
How to Install an Indoor Fake Lawn?
It is simple to install an indoor fake lawn if you have prepared the place well. This involves the removal of existing flooring from the room or lounge in which you want to install fake grass. There is no need to remove the flooring material though as only the outer most layer, such as the carpet, can be removed. The next step will be that of installing a plastic sheet or any other synthetic material to serve as the buffer between artificial grass and the flooring board.
The last step is that of spreading the fake grass as you would do with a carpet. There is a twist to the installation though. You need to secure the grass to the floor with the help of glue or other materials provided in the installation package. Some varieties of fake grass do not need this procedure as they act like a real carpet in every sense of the word. Maintenance procedures for an indoor fake lawn are also simple. You do not need to hose it down as the fake grass does not require water. Debris might still accumulate on the upper most layer but you can remove that with the help of a broom. You can also use a vacuum cleaner to remove the debris and keep artificial lawn in a pristine form.
It is now possible to have an artificial lawn of your own on the 50th floor of your office or apartment building.
