Making Synthetic Turf Last
Posted by Matt Garrabrants on
Whenever you buy something that's a long-term deal, you tend to want to make sure of what you're getting yourself into and that is the case with synthetic grass, just like anything else.
You can never be sure what the life expectancy of your synthetic turf is - the artificial grass lawn the buyer purchases does have a life span, but it is uncertain as to exactly how prolonged it will be, and whether the warranty offered alongside the purchase of the synthetic turf will live up to what it claims.
Generally, synthetic grass is bound to keep its act together for at least six or more years, or eight if one's lucky, until it starts to come apart and fade in color and show all the signs of the years of wear and tear it has gone through. In the case of artificial turf, you really don't want to buy into anything that isn't worth the money and the effort that goes into it.
When making a purchase, specifically one of synthetic grass, a number of things have to be factored in, and the longevity of the fake turf is one of the main priorities in this scenario. The method of installation, the type of turf – all contribute to cluing in to how reliable the purchase is and will be, six or eight years down the line. Different locations and sizes of installation count as well – the field turf placed in a soccer field won't be the same as the astro turf laid out in the school assembly area.
In the case of a big artificial lawn purchase, various precautions can be taken to ensure a lasting lifespan of the artificial turf. The owner should keep checking up on the fake turf from time to time. Any discrepancies that are spotted should be dealt with immediately – no tears or irregularities within the synthetic grass should be visible, and any object that has the potential to damage the state of it should be removed immediately.
Instead of letting little problems fester into really big ones, consistently looking in on the artificial lawn allows those small issues to be resolved as soon as possible. Any things lying around on the fake grass should not be there - it's possible that heavy objects, or even any sharp objects, tend to really wreak havoc on artificial turf, and as such need to be picked up and removed from the surface whenever they see them.
Another piece of advice for ensuring that the artificial grass is granted a long life is to regularly maintain the artificial lawn. Invest in your own tools and specialized cleaning instruments, and take guidance from the company the turf is purchased from if need be. The little tweaks and fixes matter in the long run, and keeping a close eye on the artificial grass from the beginning will lead to it having a long lifespan and be really worth the investment in the long run.
