Artificial Turf and Pets
Posted by Matt Garrabrants on
Artificial lawn grass is a great alternative to real grass for a myriad of reasons. If you are the owner of a pet - especially a dog - then installing an artificial lawn may turn out to be the best idea. For the sake of convenience, cleanliness, and your comfort as well as your pet's, fake grass can be installed in your front yard or back yard at an affordable price. This way, the perks of having a yard can be experienced without having to worry about any damage or extra maintenance going into it.
As evidenced by the reactions of most dogs to synthetic grass, they are not affected by it in any negative manner. They are as willing to run on, lounge around and play on fake turf as they are on actual grass. Of course, with fake turf, neither the dog nor the owner has to worry about any mud, or even any dried patches.
With an artificial lawn, there's no mowing, fertilizing, or watering. Therefore the artificial grass is there for the pets to use all year long. The distinct lack of use of insecticides and pesticides also keep the pets healthier as they are no longer exposed to any of the harmful fertilizer fumes.
Synthetic turf is generally completely safe for animals, and is in no way a risk to their health. There are also a number of brands of artificial turf that involve making fake turf suited specifically to animals. These ones are tailor-made for animals, so as to be completely non-toxic, and a reliable surface for them to roam around on.
Fake grass does not generally require much intensive care. Mowing, watering, weeding, and fertilizing are out of the equation once a fake lawn is installed. These extra responsibilities when letting pets run around the lawn are lifted off of the shoulders of the owner. Even any worries about a pet dog digging up the lawn to leave an unseemly hole on display, and tracking the mud all over the place are assuaged.
As there is no actual grass, fleas and ticks are also no longer a concern. Synthetic turf is easily cleaned and has a relatively good draining system, so there is no need to worry about the pets doing their business on them. No stains will be left behind, and the fake grass can just be hosed down with water to return it to its previous unsoiled state. Artificial grass is generally odorless, but there are some sprays available in the market that help to remove any unwanted smells from it.
When purchasing and installing the artificial turf for your pet - specifically a pet dog - do your research thoroughly. The first step is to determine the amount of turf that is going to be needed. You can either cover the entire lawn with fake grass, or decide on a more specific and smaller area for your pet to run around on.
There is an array of different brands of synthetic turf to choose from, as well as a range of prices that vary from brand to brand. Pick the right one for you and your pet, and either install it yourself or, better yet, hire a professional to help.
