Debunking the Myths About Synthetic Turf
Posted by Matt Garrabrants on
There are many myths associated with synthetic turf. Some think that fake grass tends to spoil quickly and thus is a waste of time and money. Others have reservations about the type of materials used in the grass and whether they are toxic to humans and animals. A few also think that artificial grass can never be the alternative to its natural counterpart. The lines below debunk the prevalent myths about synthetic turf.
Synthetic Turf is Expensive
Some people say that synthetic turf is not expensive. They often look at the estimates for turfs installed at larger areas such as baseball fields. The costs will be higher if the surface area covered under the fake grass is also large. You need to look at the estimates for homes if you want to install artificial turf in your backyard. The second mistake people make is to look at the overall installation costs. Unlike grass, which tends to wilt and need frequent replacements, synthetic turf can last for years. A little extra spending will save you from the almost monthly replacements of grass.
Synthetic Turf is Toxic
Another myth about artificial turf is related to its toxicity. Some people claim that artificial grass has negative impacts on humans as well as animals. Although the rumor-mongers fail to offer a scientific proof of the assumption, some people are still misled by the statement. In reality, fake grass does not pose any risk to human or animal health. It is made from materials that do not have high toxicity and that are harmless to the skin as well. The grass is safe for children as well as adults. Many homeowners have even installed synthetic turf for their pets and the latter enjoys rolling in the grass as it appears soft and natural.
Synthetic Turf is Fake
There is no doubt in the fact that synthetic turf is not natural. Manufacturers never claim such as thing in the first place. The myth, however, is related to the perception that fake grass looks as unreal as it can get. This cannot be further from the truth. You cannot tell a difference between natural and artificial grass from a distance. You will also find it hard to differentiate between the two unless you take a closer look. Even then, you will find the grass to be emulating the natural patterns and feels almost the same if you run your hand through it.
Synthetic Turf is hard to Maintain
Others are of the opinion that it takes huge spending of time and money to maintain artificial lawn grass. This is also not true. It literally takes nothing to maintain a fake turf. You may need regular watering but that is the only hassle you will have to go through. Some varieties of fake grass do not even need that
All you need to do is to complete the installation as per manufacturer’s instructions. You will then be able to enjoy the benefits of fake grass for years with little to no maintenance.
