Top 3 Synthetic Turf Myths Debunked
Posted by Matt Garrabrants on
Synthetic turf has become a phenomenon in the domestic and commercial market. You can find it in homes, sports arenas and schools and gardens, among other places. Despite the growing popularity, there are many myths attached to fake turf. Some say that synthetic turf is smelly while others are concerned about its integrity and durability.
1. Synthetic Turf is Artificial
The most propagated myth about synthetic turf is that it is artificial. While this is a reality, the way people propagate it demands an explanation. Myth mongers say that artificial grass is fake enough that one could easily recognize it. There is a misconception that one could tell apart real and fake grass from miles apart. This cannot be further from truth as artificial grass look as green as its natural counterpart. The fibers are of the same length and the girth and texture is also the same. You will be hard pressed to tell apart the two varieties except if you go closer and take a deep look.
2. Synthetic Turf is Costly
Another myth associated with fake grass is that it is highly expensive and thus out of reach of common people. This myth is the most circulated among all and has affected the decisions of thousands of people who were planning to install fake turf in their homes and offices. The myth goes that it is very expensive to install artificial turf and the task is better to be left to those with heavy pockets. The misconception is based on the fact that artificial turf is a bit more expensive than its natural counterpart. The initial costs of installation are taken as a major expense when it is not the case. Even the initial setup costs have been reduced significantly over the years. You can purchase fake turf varieties that can be installed at only a fraction of what you had to pay a few years ago.
Another factor that you have to keep in mind is that fake turf lasts much longer than natural grass. There is little maintenance required for artificial turf as there is no wilting and uprooting involved and you do not even need to crop it.
3.Synthetic Turf Smells Bad
Another myth about synthetic turf is that it reeks of dead animals. There is some truth to this myth as the earliest varieties of artificial grass did emanate an unpleasant smell. This is no longer the case though as modern artificial grass does not emanate ugly odors. You can hose it down as many times as you want and install it indoors or outdoors. The grass can be exposed to varying degrees of temperatures and there will be little incidence of bad odors. This has happened because of improved manufacturing processes and better constituent materials.
You will be surprised to find that fake turf has become the staple in sports arenas and now is making its mark in backyards. People are installing synthetic turf in their lawns and have found no issues as are propagated by myth mongers.
