Top 3 Tips for Synthetic Turf Maintenance
Posted by Matt Garrabrants on
Given the growing popularity of synthetic turf, it has become necessary to be aware of the maintenance tips. Fake grass is easier to install and last longer than its natural counterpart. Still, you need to undertake regular maintenance as otherwise the artificial grass may lose it sheen. The lines below give you three workable tips on keeping the fake lawn green and healthy for many months and years to come.
1. Hose it Down
One common mistake people make when caring for their fake lawn is that they forget to hose it down regularly. There is a misconception that artificial grass does not require water. The confusion is based on some fact as there are a few varieties of fake turf that need little to no watering. These varieties are usually installed indoors and come in a carpet-like format. The common varieties of fake turf, which are installed outdoors always need sufficient amount of moisture.
This moisture is not required for growth as fake grass comes in a fully grown and cropped format. Fake grass does not need regular watering either. Infrequent watering is still required so as to keep the grass fibers soft and shiny. Outdoor fake lawn installation is mostly done on a bed of gravel and water is required to keep the pebbles in place. You can hose down the fake lawn once or twice a week or as per the instructions in the user manual. You need to provide drainage pipes underneath the gravel base so as to remove water from the turf. It should not take longer to accomplish the task as only a few drainage pipes are required for this purpose.
2. Remove Debris
Nothing can be more unappealing than seeing an otherwise shiny and exuberant fake turf with plenty of debris. The purpose of having artificial grass that could stay green for many weeks and months goes down the drain when you fail to keep it tidy. The irony is that cleaning can be done in a few minutes. It is recommended that you remove the debris off the fake lawn every day. An alternative day sweeping and vacuuming is also good. Bird droppings are another problem that needs to be tackled seriously for outdoor fake lawn installation. Hosing down is the ideal way of cleaning such impurities though vacuuming can also be of help.
3. Keep it Grounded
There is a possibility that parts of the fake turf come undone due to botched installation. You will see bumps or depressions on the artificial turf in this case. It is simple to address this problem as you can readjust the grass and use levelers to put it in place. There is also a possibility that you forgot to secure fake turf to the gravel with the help of clips. A quick fixing will eliminate the problem and the grass will be as plain and shiny as it was on the first day of installation.
Synthetic turf maintenance is a breeze but requires quick fixes as delays can worsen the situation.
